Batting to the top - Taylors Arm leads cricket competition

Taylors Arm has now taken the lead in the district cricket competition with a win over Nambucca Heads last Saturday. The game was played at Taylors Arm with the home side batting first scoring 133 and all out in 31 overs.

Opener Damien Powell top scored with 60, while Rick Fry (12) and Daniel Ledger (16) were the only others to reach double figures.

Greg Watts and Josh Bryne bowled well with each taking three wickets. Nambucca Heads in reply were bundled out for 84 in 24 overs with Aaron Clarke (23) and Justin Saker (21) top scoring. John Rowe took 4/12 from six overs while Paul Mulvihill took 4/15 from his six overs. Taylors Arm winners by 49 runs.

Runs were in abundance up at Bowraville where the home side played Talarm. Talarm batting first scored 251 all out in 40 overs. James Livock top scored with 60 while John Cowan (48), Rod Chaseling (37*) and Greg Chaseling (30) were the best for Talarm.

Bowraville bowlers shared the wickets with four of them getting two wickets apiece. Bowraville in reply made a real chase but were dismissed after 37 overs for 231. Luke Gill (39) and Kenny Walker (42) opened the innings with an 89 run stand. Others to bat well were Ron Gleeson (46) and Marc Gill (45). Shay Bennett took 3/54 while three others took 2 wickets each. Talarm winners by 20 runs.

Nambucca Hotel played Macksville Ex-Services at Donnelly/Welsh in another high scoring game. The Hotel

batted first and amassed 3/258. Dane Luffman top scored with 125 not out while Hector Edwards almost made a century with 95.

These two shared a second wicket partnership of 199, which stands as the top partnership of the season.

Ex-Services used nine bowlers in their attempt to slow the scoring. Rhys Fuller was the best with 2/32 from seven overs.

Ex-Services then batted and were dismissed for 147 in 27 overs. Three batters in Kyle Miller, Matt Ward and Troy Grace each scored 25 while Jake Fuller scored 24. Hotels top wicket taker was Jack Coleman with 5/18. He bowled four overs and claimed the

season’s first hat trick. Jason Ahearn also bowled well by taking 3/37 from eight overs Hotel winners by 111 runs.

Macksville Country Club played Warrell Creek at Thistle Park turf where Warrell Creek batting first scored 6/204. Joe Costa top scored with 56 while Todd Bartlett (34), Tom Mann (28), Charles Bush (26) and Clint Daley (20) also batted well.

Darrell Crossingham was Country Clubs top wicket taker with 3/32. Country Club in reply made 135 in 37 overs with Darrell Crossingham the best with 28. Jason O’Donnell (22) and Mitch O’Grady (21*) were the next best for Country Club. Charles Bush (3/20) and Joe Costa (3/23) were Warrell Creeks top bowlers. Warrell Creek winners by 69 runs.

Some recent by-law breaches has seen a change in the point score table with Taylors Arm now leading on 38 followed by Ex-Services 32, Nambucca Hotel 32, Talarm 23, Warrell Creek 21, Nambucca Heads 20, Bowraville 18 and Country Club 12.
