Savannah and Mercedes Peterkin from Stuarts Point Little Athletics have been selected to compete at the Hunter Track Classic this month.
The talented duo will be in the under-14
athletes ALA team challenge – a feature event at the 2012 Hunter Track Classic on January 21.
Selection was based on a weekend of zone
competition held in December at Port Macquarie.
At that meet, Savannah finished first in the 100m and 200m sprint, long jump, high jump and javelin. Mercedes was first in 200m hurdles, second in 100m sprint, second in 80m hurdles, fourth in the triple jump and third in the 800m.
The Hunter Track Classic is a premier event, with teams entering from other NSW zones, ACT and Tasmania.
The Team Challenge during the Hunter Track Classic is part of the National Grand Prix event circuit.
The twins will form part of the team for the 100m, 400m, 1000m, long jump, shot put and medley relay and contest a maximum of two individual events plus the relay.
Following the event, the girls have been
invited to attend the Hunter Track Classic coaching clinic the following day. All this will be held at Glendale, Newcastle.
The following week both girls will compete in the NSW Country Championships to represent Stuart Point Little Athletics.
Last year at the NSW Country Championships, Savannah brought home medals in the long jump, high jump, 100m, 200m, and triple jump.
In another honour, Savannah has been selected to tour Canada and USA as part of Sports Australia team next year.
At this stage she will not be going as there are other opportunities available, including a trial selection for Hunter Sports Academy High School.
