The Nambucca Valley is qucikly proving it has an abundance of up-and-coming talent in the world of athletics.
After competing at the recent Little Athletics Region Four Championships in Tamworth, Nambucca District Little Athletics Club’s 22 athletes came away from the field with an array of medals and personal best achievments in track and field events during the two-day event from February 20 to 21.
Club publicity officer Tracey Cheers said every athlete performed to the best of their ability, meeting goals, achieving personal bests and most importantly
walking off the track with their heads held high.
“Some of the best performances over the weekend were by Anthony Walker, who went home with two gold and one silver; Alina Tape, with one gold, two
silver and one bronze; Beau Tape, with two silver and one bronze; and record-breaker for the carnival, Taleigha Gillin, who jumped a height of 1.54m to break the Under 17 girls long-jump record,” Mrs Cheers said.
The club’s first time state qualifiers include Dylan Blanch, Jacob Phelps, Chris Buckley, Kirstie Pedrola and Amanda Cheers, together with former state qualifiers Rhiannon Rotumah and Savannah Peterkin would travel to Sydney Olympic Park on March 19 to 21 to compete against athletes from all over NSW.
“Well done to all our other competing athletes Simon Walker, Jacob Pedrola, Nesta Walker, Jarrod Mitton, Matthew Keast, Jocelyn Pedrola, Mercedes Peterkin, Ellie Scafidi, Jayde Hill, Brooke Pedrola and Sharni Tape.”
