The 2012 Stramit NSW Country Surf Life Saving
Championships were held in South West Rocks over the weekend.
More than 1500 competitors registered to take part at the event.
This carnival is the only event on the surf sport calendar to feature a full range of events, including
surfboats, as well as all age groups from U8s through to masters.
Allana (Lani) Walshe competed in the U9 female surf
race, placing second and taking out the silver medal for the Macksville/Scotts Head Surf Club.
On the morning of the carnival, Lani went to training at 5:30am for an hour, her race started at 8am in
South West Rocks.
“I’m really happy and glad about coming second, especially after the craziness that morning. It’s just so exciting,” Lani said.
Lani was training seven times a week, in preparation for this carnival, and will maintain that training regime for future sporting events.
Her coach Tanya Freeman said this was such a great result for Lani.
“It’s great considering all the time and effort she put in; she’s such a good little trainer, ” she said.
