Three of Macksville High’s school-based trainees have acquired full-time apprenticeships through the training scheme.
Year 12 students Samantha Ryan, Alexandra Andrews and Sarah Winslow will take on the full-time positions after completing their high school certificate this month.
Macksville High School Careers Advisor Celestine Porter-Burns said the school-based traineeships allowed students to make part-time paid work an integral part of their HSC program.
“This is the best type of traineeship partnership,” she said.
“We had three excellent applicants and three employers who were willing to invest time and training of young people in the Valley.
“It’s win-win all around, so thank you to all the employers who support our students so generously.”
Samantha Ryan has been working with BCU, and Sarah Winslow with Ray White Real Estate in Nambucca Heads.
Both girls studied business services at school and gained skills from their work placement to go toward their studies, teacher Tony Water said.
“Both Sarah and Samantha were excellent students to start with, but their real employment experience gave them a level of communication, skill and efficiency that is best learned in the workplace,” he said.
Alexandra Andrews will continue her apprenticeship with Billie’s Effects hair salon in Nambucca Heads next year.
Her teachers said she had developed skills and knowledge, which give her a great head start in her chosen career.
