Recent torrential rain, which flooded the Valley for the fifth time this year, forced organisers to reluctantly cancel the combined public schools performance spectacular.... Showtime.
As the heavy rained continued to fall throughout rehearsals at Macksville sports
stadium of Friday, November 6, organisers made the tough decision to close the curtains on the biennial performance.
However, the show will go on. Tomorrow in fact. Organisers of the event, Eungai Public School principal Tony Buckley, Matt Gilbert from Nambucca Heads High School and Angie Evans, principal at Scotts Heads Public School,
re-schedule the show for November 20, from 6.30pm.
“It is important to give the students this opportunity to perform in front of a large audience,” Mr Buckley said.
“One little girl told me that the rehearsal was the most exciting moment in her life and she could hardly wait to perform for her grand-
parents.”
The students had been preparing for months, and for many from smaller schools it would be their only opportunity to perform in such a large show.
Showtime showcases the talent of more than 500 students from kindergarten to Year 12 from the area’s 10 public schools in a performance to celebrate public education, Mr Buckley said.
Tickets are $5 each or $15 for a family of four and are available at participating schools.
The show will run from 6.30pm to 8.30pm, however guests are welcome to arrive any time after 5pm and can enjoy a barbecue from the local Lions Clubs.
