EARLIER this week, the State Emergency Services (SES) cancelled their initial flood watch warning for the Nambucca – before re-instating the warning, after more rain was predicted.
Hundreds of residents were isolated by floodwaters in the Valley last week, and it appears the rain’s not done with yet.
SES spokesperson Phil Campbell said while there may be only minor flooding, people are urged to relocate livestock and equipment to higher ground.
“This situation will potentially drag on for residents, so we’re urging residents to stock up on food, fuel, medicine and other essentials,” he said.
“It is important not to assume the flooding is over. There is a 70 per cent chance the rivers in the Valley will flood again.”
Authorities have again pleaded with motorists to stay clear of floodwaters after two incidents in the Nambucca last week, where one couple was rescued for the second time after driving around the flood warning sign at Greys Crossing; while a male driver attempted to drive over the bridge, pushing his vehicle onto the guardrail.
“We’d like to remind the public that floodwater is extremely dangerous as it can have fast moving undercurrents that can wash people and vehicles away,” Mr Campbell said.
“Nobody should drive, ride or walk through floodwater.”
More than 60 rescues on the Mid North Coast last week were recorded.
