This year’s Clean-up Australia Day, (Sunday, 7th) marks the 20th anniversary of the environmental campaign.
Over the past two decades, volunteers have spent more than 24 million hours at almost 130,000 registered sites.
Clean-up Australia Day in the Nambucca Valley is being organised by the Nambucca Valley River User’s Group (NVRUG), which will focus on local estuaries and waterways.
If you would like to lend the group a helping hand, just turn-up at one of the three regsitered sites at 8am and do your bit for a clean Valley.
The assembly points are; Macksville and Stuart Island boat ramps and Gumma reserve.
Clean-up Australia Day is a nationwide environmental event launched by Ian Kiernan. It urges people to help make a difference within their local community by spending a couple of hours helping to clean-up rubbish.
“It’s been an amazing 20 years and we’re aiming to make 2010 Clean-Up Australia Day’s biggest year yet,” Mr Kiernan said.
“Communities have been able to achieve so much, so there’s a lot to celebrate as we look forward to the next 20 years and plan for the future.
Out of the rubbish from Clean-up Australia came the ‘Say NO to Plastic bags’ initiative that reduced plastic bag use by 45 per cent.
