Nambucca Heads Lifeguards were called to rescue two body boarders who were swept out to sea last Friday (20th).
The body boarders, middle-aged men from Sydney, were swept 500 metres out to sea from the river mouth at the V-Wall, then another 500 metres south towards Scotts Head.
The incident was called in at around 11:15am, and by 11:20am the IRB was launched from the surf club and was en-route to the scene.
A resident at the White Albatross Holiday Park, who witnessed the event from the break-wall, raised the alarm.
Lifeguards Kevin Morrison and Hannah Iredale responded swiftly, with Sam Eiler on radio transmissions with surf-com, while keeping Main Beach open and under patrol.
Jayne Morrison was on standby at the V-wall, with a radio to communicate with the IRB. Police monitored the situation from the V-Wall.
Marine Rescue was activated, however, its services were unnecessary.
Nambucca Lifeguard Supervisor Kale Hopper said he was very pleased with the co-operation by both Australian Lifeguard Services and Nambucca Heads Surf Club, and praised the guards’ efforts and quick response time.
