Police say ute driver was over the limit

09 Feb, 2012 04:08 PM
Police on the state’s north coast are continuing their inquiries into a double fatal crash at Urunga last month.

Investigators have found no evidence to suggest speed was a factor in the fatal crash.

However, police have now revealed in a statement today (February 9) the driver of the northbound ute had a high-range blood alcohol concentration of 0.245 – almost five times the legal limit.

The ute was travelling north in the southbound lanes of the highway in urunga, before colliding with a southbound b-double truck, causing the truck to run off the road and slam into a house.

Police continue to investigate all matters, including but not restricted to comprehensive examination of the vehicles involved and the roadway upon which the crash occurred.

All information is being provided to the Coroner.

Meanwhile, anyone who witnessed the crash or circumstances leading up to it and has not already spoken with police is urged to consider Mid North Coast Crash Investigation Unit or Crime Stoppers on

1800 333 000.

Yes it was the ute driver's fault. But if we had a 21st century highway along from Macksville to Urunga, these people who are doing wrong on our roads wooldn't be taking out poor innocent souls.

OK so if the road had been upgraded, and someone under the influence kills someone else on the road, that person whose life is taken is not a poor innocent soul??? That statement is very unfair, especially to all the other people's lives who have been cut short in car accidents. A dual carriage way is going to reduce the loss of life, not stop it completely. People will still drive drunk, under the influence of drugs, or tired. I can't understand peoples thought train on how an upgrade of the highway is going to stop road fatalites completely.

Trucks are usually the fastest traveling vehicles on our roads but they cannot stop when something goes wrong. The whole issue of speed limits is a nonsense when trucks can't stop at the speed they are allowed to travel.
