Once again Nambucca Heads High School has nurtured some impressive talent in the creative and performing arts.
Following the higher school certificate (HSC) practical exams held in September, teachers were thrilled to be informed that three of their students had been nominated for state-wide performance showcases.
Georgie Maggs and Matt Archer have both been nominated to perform their HSC drama individual performances at Onstage.
Drama teacher, Mike Major, said while all his students gave outstanding performances in front of the panel of HSC markers and were a credit to the school, to be nominated for Onstage is an exceptional honour.
“To our knowledge they are the only drama students nominated for performance on the North Coast this year which is a huge recognition of their excellence and a great achievement for Nambucca Heads High School,” he said.
To top off the success of the drama students, drummer, Christina Langham, has also been nominated to perform at Encore – the NSW music HSC showcase.
“Christina is an amazing drummer and certainly deserves this nomination,” music teacher, Matt Gilbert said.
“Christina starte drumming lessons in Year 9 and through numerous performances with the school band she has become an outstanding percussionist.”
Both Onstage and Encore are extremely prestigious events – only a handful of students were nominated each year and even fewer of these being selected to perform.
Onstage plays at the Seymour Centre over a one-week period and Encore is staged at the Sydney Opera House over two nights and performing in these events is the highest success any performing arts student can gain in the HSC.
Christina is the fifth Encore nominee from the music department at Nambucca Heads High School over the past five years.
The last two nominees, Jeff and Curt Argent, made it through to perform at Encore and following their success on stage at the Sydney Opera House, both boys were offered numerous scholarships, choosing to accept scholarships at the Australian Institute of Music.
Jeff and Curt have just completed their degrees and are currently performing on an overseas tour in Thailand, Malaysia and Japan.
