NAMBUCCA Shire Council has been forced to effect a partial road closure on Boat Harbour Rd (13.6km from Macksville) due to a potential major land slip.
Engineering Services director Paul Gallagher said the pavement has severe, deep, longitudinal cracking within the travel lane adjacent to the embankment and council has closed part of the road and installed temporary traffic lights with a 40km speed zone while geotechnical engineers assess the site.
Mr Gallagher said Taylors Arm Road (west of the Bakers Creek Rd turnoff) remains partially closed under traffic speed restrictions while council completes remedial work on the landslip and that road conditions can change at any time.
Council continues to monitor and assess the road conditions throughout the shire and is attending to priority works.
Council asks motorists to take care and precaution when travelling on both sealed and unsealed roads within the shire.
Mayor Rhonda Hoban said that the Nambucca Shire Council has been declared a natural disaster area and that a preliminary estimation of damage across the shire for the January event is in the vicinity of $1.3 million.
Residents can access information on the status of roads and bridges on council’s website www.nambucca.nsw.gov.au.
