It is good news all round as Nambucca Heads joins the few small community cinemas in Australia that operate digital 3D equipment.
Majestic Cinema Nambucca Marketing Manager Susanne Tighe said there was a desire for 3D films, and now moviegoers would not have totravel to Coffs Harbour and back to fill that desire.
With the projector chosen, a $2 surcharge would be applied, but this measured relatively low compared to the $5 or more that other cinemas asked, due to their more expensive equipment.
“We went for the camera that gives the best value for the customer,” Mrs Tighe said. “We are very happy to bring the 3D experience to the Nambucca.”
Majestic Cinema Nambucca Projection Manager Brian Cleary said he found it interesting that ‘going 3D’ was not about things jumping out at the audience, but rather adding dimension to the screen.
The cinema had operated three 35mm projectors, which, depending on the length of the film, required about 30 minutes to connect five to nine reels.
With the advent of a digital projector, preparation time would be reduced to five minutes.
The film was delivered to the cinema on a hard drive and all that remained to do was simply connect it to the server, through a USB cable, and then attach the new theatrical trailers.
“They call it ingesting,” Mr Cleary said.
In preparation of the projectors installment, Mr Cleary visited the Port Macquarie Majestic Cinema to see how they organised and managed their digital equipment.
When the digital projector arrives this week, Mr Cleary said the installers would demonstrate to staff the machine’s general operation.
“With the way things are moving to the future, you’ve got to get on the train or you miss out,” Mr Cleary said.
