After receiving development consent from Nambucca Shire Council at its March 4, general meeting, the cancer resource centre, which is to be erected within the grounds of the Macksville Health Campus, will proceed in three stages.
Once completed, the purpose built-facility will provide support and education for patients and carers affected by cancer.
As a contribution, council will waive the fees and charges associated with the development application – a total of $15,523.50 – and donate $10,000 in cash to the project.
The centre will serve as a meeting venue for cancer support groups including fundraising groups, support groups for patients, breast cancer support groups and volunteers and activities including clerical support.
The centre will also be a base for palliative care team services, provide consulting rooms and a venue for visiting health professionals.
The centre will run bereavement programs and be a supply base for care service equipment.
