Rather than being disbanded by Nambucca Shire Council, the Nambucca River Estuary and Coastline Management Committee will instead take on a new name and shed some of its membership.
In a decision made at the March 4, general meeting, council decided that the committee would now be called the Nambucca River Creek, Estuaries and Coastline Management Committee.
For the first time, the new look committee would have a representative from the tourism industry and representation from a local environmental group.
Councillor John Ainsworth would also be a representative.
Council had previously recommended that the original committee be discontinued once the Nambucca River Master Plan was finalised.
The decision to wrap up the committee was outlined in a report from council’s general manager in October 2009, because the committee was considered by council to be ‘unwieldy and expensive to administer’ having 40 members.
The Nambucca River Creek, Estuaries and Coastline Management committee with fewer members would provide input into the future management of waterways in the Nambucca Valley.
The committee would also act as conduit between the group or organisation represented and the council on various coastal, estuary and flooding issues.
