Donatelife Book of Life

16 Feb, 2012 03:00 AM
Three local families will add to the Donatelife Book of Life - a true story about organ donation - when it arrives at Nambucca Library on Wednesday.

Members of the public are welcome to attend and a morning tea will be served as the Book of Life is presented to Mayor Rhonda Hoban at 10.30.

The book will remain in the library for a week and residents are encouraged to read the articles which

celebrate the donations made by families. It tells stories of hope and life - from the perspective of recipients as well as donors.

Adam Gilmore, a local identity, was born with a genetic condition which resulted in his liver transplant last year. Adam will be at the library to add his story to the book.

The Ulrich family of Urunga will attend to add the story of their daughter, Donna, who, though critically injured in a tragic car accident several years ago, donated her organs to save many others after her death at John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle.

The third local story to be added is that of Peter Argent, who wanted to donate his organs after a skateboard fall in Nambucca in 2008. His family have gone on to establish Be Positive 4 Pete, a group dedicated to donating blood on his behalf.

You can register on Facebook after you have donated and join more than 1500 people donating on his behalf.

The Donatelife nurse educator will be there to answer any questions and an open invitation to all the people of the Nambucca is extended.
