Nambucca Shire Council will hire consultants to undertake ecological studies required for the draft Local Environmental Plan. The decision was passed at council’s March 4 meeting.
The draft Local Environmental Plan will form the basis of the Valla Urban Growth Area for future development.
The Valla Urban Growth Area is 574 hectares of undulating agricultural land including riparian corridors. This area was proposed for re-zoning primarily for employment and residential purposes.
The studies investigated relate to the flora and fauna assessment and the landscape and habitat management plan that need incorporating into the LEP.
At the meeting, council endorsed Mary Dallas Archeological Consultants to undertake Archeolog-ical investigations throughout the proposed Valla urban growth area.
Council has also initiated other relevant studies, such as the flood study for Deep Creek catchment. Two major landholders in the area already engaged consultants to investigate flora, fauna, archaeology and contamination attributes of their properties.
These investigations did not cover the entire study area; therefore, additional studies are required to supplement these investigations. Council has approximately $101,000 available to progress
studies in the Valla Urban Growth area, $60,000 from within the 2009/10 Strategic Planning Budget and $41,000 available through the Planning Reform Fund (Department of Planning).
