 Budding projectionist needed

Budding projectionist needed

12 Jun, 2008 04:00 AM
The Bowraville Theatre has now been reopened for five years, operating under the management of the Bowraville Arts Council.

In that time the theatre has shown a variety of shows and locally-produced plays, pantomime,

performances by pianist Simon Tedeschi and also ‘Travelling Theatre’ from Sydney.

Our most recent live performance was a music festival with 12 performances by local musicians over seven hours, starting with the Bowraville Theatre Singers through to the Rob Torelli Band, all involved donated their talents to the theatre fund-raising for the dressing rooms and stage enlargement for which the Bowraville Arts Council is very grateful. It was a fantastic evening.

These shows and performances were presented professionally and well-attended with positive feedback for more of the same from patrons.

All this was done without proper changing room facilities, which is a top priority in the theatre’s fund-raising activities.

The theatre also has a film society, which meets every last Saturday of the month, showing films that don’t get a run at the commercial cinemas.

Members welcome non-members to these nights at which a light meal is available, served in our cafe` before the film.

The theatre also shows general release

films once a month. These are chosen for their popularity.

These films need a projectionist to run them and we are lucky to have Richard Szydlak, who had been a film projectionist for 18 years.

Now retired, he volunteers his skills to the Bowraville Theatre.

Richard says he would love to train somebody to do the job of a projectionist. So, if there’s somebody out there who is mechanically minded, please contact the theatre.

Anybody who would like to become a volunteer at the theatre is most welcome. We need ushers and box office people to be part of this wonderful asset of Bowraville. Just call into the theatre or ring between 10am and 2pm weekdays.
