It was a nervous first-time eisteddfod appearance for brothers Eamonn and Corwin Lee at Coffs Harbour recently.
The Nambucca Heads boys need not have worried – they came home with a swag of trophies for their efforts on the piano during the May 30 competition.
They both have been taking piano lessons for about a year, but this was their first taste of competition.
Eamonn, 6, finished third in his solo performance, and came fourth in the seven-years and under competition.
Corwin, 9, was awarded first place in his exam grade for his age group, and second in the Australian composition section, which was composed by his music teacher Heather Rose.
He was also highly commended for his nine-years-and-under recital.
On top of his immediate successes, Corwin later learned that he was awarded the trophy for being the overall most promising student in the Australian composition section.
Teacher Ms Rose said she was very proud of his achievement, which took in all ages up to 20-year-olds. She was also pleased with the professional performance of Eamonn, who continued through his recital, despite his music falling down on to his hands.
“He didn’t miss a beat,” she said.
Ms Rose said the boys’ success was a tribute to the hard work and dedication of their mum, Pei de.
