For the past eight years, Bowraville artist Les Murdock has donated one of his paintings per year to a student as an annual prize for achievement.
Bowraville Central School Head Teacher Paul Le Cerf said that the nature of Mr Murdock’s art contributions would now go toward a trust established to give financial assistance to students needing support with their education and costs associated with school to work transition.
“The generosity of Les Murdock is enormous,” Mr Le Cerf said.
“Mr Murdock will now be donating a painting a year to the school which will be available for sale or auction, with the proceeds going into a trust account for kids in need.”
The partnership formed between the artist and Bowraville Central School will mean that the money raised would help support students get the most out of their education.
“The money will be used to help students attend excursions, help out with the costs of vocational courses, additional tutoring, the purchase of equipment and fee payment for training activities,” Mr Le Cerf said.
“For instance, if a student wanted to become a Barista, the money could pay for the costs associated with professional training, or help them obtain a construction white card or even a safe food handling course, things that help them gain employment.
“The benefits to the buyer are two-fold, they get a wonderful artwork and the money goes toward helping kids in need.”
