The countdown until community radio station 2NVR or ‘Radio Nambucca’ makes the big move from its longtime residence at the Bowraville Community Centre to its new home at Tewinga’s community centre has begun.
Phase one of the move will be funded by Nambucca Shire Council to the tune of $20,000, enabling necessary alterations to the building to accommodate the radio station.
2NVR provided council with detailed plans for the proposed internal layout at its August 5 meeting.
In due course, the radio station will submit a development application to council for structural changes to the building.
2NVR President Juliet Tilson said theorganisation would provide council with monthly progress reports, including receipts to acquit the grant.
“Periodic inspections of the site may be made by council staff to ensure acceptable progress is being made,” Ms Tilson said.
To help the move along, 2NVR will hold a ‘Relocation Fundraiser’ at Macksville Ex-Service’s Club on Saturday, August 28, starting at 7pm.
2NVR radio announcer Vicki Malouney said all the money raised would go toward funding the costly move to the Tewinga Community Hall.
“We have four fantastic musical acts on the night lending their support to our fundraiser and they will all bring a variety of music with them,” Ms Malouney said.
“Sally-Anne Whitten is making the trip from Tamworth for the night and brings her country rock with some blues and a hint of motown.
“Rod Dowsett from Coffs Harbour will be another guest performing on the night and plays a mix of bluegrass, blues and alternative rock.
“Other acts will be local duo Simpatico and Laura and Alicia who do a variety of songs from the top 40 as well.”
Tickets ($16 for non-members, $11 for members and $5 for children under 12) are available from Macksville Ex-Service’s Club on the night or beforehand by phoning 6568 1344.
